About Peebles
Peebles was made a royal burgh by King David I in the early 12th century and has been the county town of the historic Peeblesshire for centuries. The town sits in a sheltered valley on the River Tweed, surrounded by the rolling hills of the Borders. Peebles was historically a centre for wool and textile production, and the surviving woollen mills along the river edge speak to that heritage.
