About Dunbar
Dunbar has a rich and turbulent history. The ruins of Dunbar Castle, perched on cliffs above the harbour, witnessed sieges in the 14th and 17th centuries — most famously Cromwell's victory at the Battle of Dunbar in 1650. The town was the birthplace of John Muir, founder of America's national parks, in 1838, and his childhood home on the High Street is now a museum. Dunbar's two harbours and long beaches have made it a fishing and resort town for centuries. It claims one of the sunniest microclimates in Scotland.
