About Bonnyrigg
Bonnyrigg developed from two earlier settlements — Bonnyrigg and Lasswade — which formally merged in 1929. The area's history is tied to coal mining, paper milling and carpet weaving. Lasswade itself is one of Scotland's oldest villages, with a churchyard containing graves dating back to the medieval period. Walter Scott lived briefly at Lasswade in the early 19th century. In modern times, Bonnyrigg has expanded substantially with significant new housing developments, making it one of the fastest-growing towns in central Scotland.
